1950 RCA Tabletop Electron Microscope

Check out this beautiful example of Atomic Age design from RCA. This microscope was marketed as an affordable alternative to a typical Scanning Electron Microscope. "So simplified is the new instrument that a high school student or unskilled laboratory technician can quickly learn to use it!"
This is the cover from a twelve page brochure detailing the features of the RCA EMT Tabletop. The advertisement boasts a maximum magnification of 6,000x. Today's SEMs are capable of magnifications beyond 100,000x.

  1. Eric - it would be best if you noted that this brochure was owned by us at the SMECC Museum In Arizona - Alo you will notice the link no loger works as that section of the website was done in front page and the images wee in a daughter web and I need to figure out how to fix that to work without having to republish the site which you can not do as front page extensions on servers are no longer available. You might also want to correct "an affordable alternative to a typical Scanning Electron Microscope." to read - - "an affordable alternative to a typical Electron Microscope." The RCA EMT was not meant to compete or take the place of a SEM it was a lo cost alternative to a 'EM' - - Thanks Ed Sharpe Archivist for SMECC
